Click below to read three articles on the very possible re-instituition of the draft. This time the draft will be much more widespread. In a nutshell, there will be no exemptions, men and women alike will be drafted over a much wider age range than before. All of the previous methods of avoiding the draft will have been eliminated. This could very well affect not only our own children, but for some of us it could even affect our grandchildren. In the WCG days we could easily fall back on the conscientious objector status that was established for the church. But as ASK supporters, we do not have that luxury. Nor, with our knowledge of the Bible, would we be able to claim a biblically based objection to warfare. Most of us would object to participating in wars of aggresion, being conducted under the guise of fighting terrorism. While both candidates deny any plans to implement the draft, the fact is that preparations are being made for it. If another 9/11 incident were to occur (and there is a better than 50% chance that it will happen either right before or right after the election), sentiment for a draft might become popular. And if George Bush is re-elected, he will be a lame-duck President with no concern about doing something as unpopular as re-instating the draft. What do you think of this situation? Hey Ken, I am so glad that all three of my boys are too old to be drafted but I pray for those Mom's and sons who are not. I think drafting will be reinstated, there is just too much talk going on about it. Usually where there is smoke, there is, or will be a flame. My middle son was in the first Gulf war. After it was over I told him to "get out of the military, if he didn't he would be back over there again", and I am so glad he did. Charlotte
