On the ASK Community forum, I've been going back and forth with a poster by the name of Boki about Daniel 7. Together we've been dissecting it pretty good and finding out all kinds of good stuff. But yesterday I found something that kind of made me stand back and wonder.
I was reading the following passage:
That part about the Son of Man coming with the clouds of heaven sounded a little odd to me, and I discussed it briefly with Boki. At first we assumed that it was a reference to Christ's return to Earth.
He ascended in a cloud, and the angels said that that's how he'll return. But something didn't add up. The passage from Daniel 7 said that when the Son of Man is brought to the Ancient of Days, he is given a kingdom.
When Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father, he will stay there until all enemies have become his footstool.
When Jesus comes and sits at the right hand of the Father, his reign has begun. But when does he sit at the right hand of God?
Immediately after his ascension, Jesus sits down at the right hand of his heavenly Father and begins his reign. He is reigning right now, and has been for 2,000 years. How long will this reign last? Who is the last enemy that will be put under Christ's feet?
Now that we know when Christ's reign begins (when he ascends and sits at the right hand of the Father) and when it ends (when death is destroyed), let's go back to Daniel 7. The Son of Man is being brought to the Ancient of Days and given a kingdom. The verses quoted above shows that this happens when Christ ascends. That means that Daniel 7 is talking about Christ coming in clouds TO the Father FROM the Earth, not the other way around! This is not some future prophecy, this has already been fulfilled. I was reading the following passage:
I was watching in the night visions,
And behold, One like the Son of Man,
Coming with the clouds of heaven!
He came to the Ancient of Days,
And they brought Him near before Him.
Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom,
That all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him.
His dominion is an everlasting dominion,
Which shall not pass away,
And His kingdom the one
Which shall not be destroyed.
Daniel 7:13-14
And behold, One like the Son of Man,
Coming with the clouds of heaven!
He came to the Ancient of Days,
And they brought Him near before Him.
Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom,
That all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him.
His dominion is an everlasting dominion,
Which shall not pass away,
And His kingdom the one
Which shall not be destroyed.

Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven."

A Psalm of David. The affirmation of Jehovah to my Lord: `Sit at My right hand, Till I make thine enemies thy footstool.'
Psalms 110:1
Psalms 110:1
When Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father, he will stay there until all enemies have become his footstool.
For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet.
1 Corinthians 15:25
1 Corinthians 15:25
When Jesus comes and sits at the right hand of the Father, his reign has begun. But when does he sit at the right hand of God?
So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
Mark 16:19
Mark 16:19

The last enemy that will be destroyed is death.
